Billy's Balloon Breakdown

Billy's Balloon is undoubtedly a unique and interesting film about a kid and his red balloon. It was interesting to first note the significance in the addition of the bright red color of the balloon contrasted by a white and black environment. The color draws focus to the object and brings upon a sense of foreshadowing along with the eerie stillness of the balloon in the very beginning of the film. As readers come to know in the following first moments of the film, the balloon becomes very hostile towards the kid and the scenes turn suddenly violent, with the balloon making several attempts at seriously injuring its owner. A shocking turn of events from the innocent beginnings of a kid playing with his balloon. The viewers likely would have known something would have happened from the stillness and slow pacing of the beginning however likely did not predict for the plot of the story to turn so quickly into something more sinister. The quick movements of the balloon juxtaposed to the poor kid's shock and disbelief give a humorous effect for audiences that typically expect a cute and innocent story out of a kid and his balloon.
