Understanding When to Erase

Something I have always been very confident in is my ability to know when to abandon a certain part in a piece. Other artists have claimed to throw away entire projects and completely restart, which is understandable, however I always like to stretch out ideas and make them work somehow. I don't like the idea of putting so much effort into something just to throw it away, but I will understand and recognize when a certain part of my work just isn't clicking and try my best to scrap it.
